INTEGRATIVE RELATIONAL COUNSELLOR & PSYCHOTHERAPIST
About me
I’m an experienced registered Integrative Relational Psychotherapist with a background in providing support to individuals in both the private and third sector organisations such as Cardiff Women’s Aid, Cardiff Mind and Platform Wellbeing.
I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental and welcoming space for all clients. I am an inclusive sex positive & kink aware practitioner working with individuals of all genders, relationship structures and sexual orientations over the age of 18+. I am bilingual (English/Spanish), have lived in several countries and therefore I welcome working with individuals with whom English is not their first language, are nomads and have strong connections to other cultures.
I have experience in research in domestic abuse revictimization and I have a special interest in working with and understanding how our experiences in our relationships with others and with ourselves impacts our lives and our wellbeing.
I am currently enhancing my professional development as a Clinical Sexologist and Relationship Therapist with the reputable Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology.
In my spare time you will find me exploring nature with my dogs Wilson & Freddie; swimming in the sea; hanging upside down doing aerial fitness; travelling; spending time with friends & loved ones; & enjoying my passion for live music at country, rock and heavy metal gigs.
Integrative Relational Counselling & Psychotherapy is a modern and flexible approach to understanding mental health, our difficulties in life and how the therapeutic relationship can help with these and guide you through them. As a relational therapist I place a great importance on creating a secure therapeutic relationship and stable base with my clients in order to understand your needs and therefore tailor the work to you and your preferences. There is always a deep focus on relationships in relational therapy and this is because harm that occurs in relationships is also healed in relationships. My focus is to create an authentic and genuine therapeutic relationship with you which can heal relational wounds. I don’t believe in depersonalised therapy, at times I may share insights about me that are relevant to the work. Therapy can be heavy, but it doesn’t have to be humourless. I will create space for laughter when you need it.
As an integrative therapist I also integrate techniques from different approaches to therapy. It’s important to me to work collaboratively with you, always providing an invitation not an obligation. As much of my work centres around relationships and childhood my approach is mainly informed by Psychodynamic, Existential and Person-centred therapy, although I also incorporate elements from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
I am a Trauma trained therapist and I understand the impact that trauma can have on building trust, emotional regulation and daily functioning. I chose to train as a psychotherapist due to my own experiences of complex trauma and living with symptoms of PTSD. A long road to healing has greatly informed my work and my understanding of shame in trauma survivors. I use shame theories to support trauma work as shame is often the primary emotion we will encounter together and perhaps the most challenging. My background in psychology has equipped me with research informed psychoeducation that I will weave into our work to help you to understand what may be happening on a psychological and physiological level and how we can work with this to help you feel more in control of what you may be experiencing.
